In terms of physical and chemical properties, yttrium tungsten electrode has the characteristics of pure tungsten electrode and yttrium oxide, which is mainly manifested in high melting point, high elastic modulus, strong electron emission ability, good arc starting performance, high arc column stability, and burning loss. Low rate, good electrical and thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance. It is worth mentioning that the main reason for doping some yttrium oxide with low electron work function in the pure tungsten electrode is to increase the recrystallization temperature of the product and activate the electron emission, this makes up for the shortcomings of low emission efficiency and easy breakage of pure tungsten electrodes.
From the perspective of production technology, the manufacturing steps of yttrium tungsten electrode are as follows: first, yttrium nitrate aqueous solution is uniformly mixed into ammonium paratungstate or tungsten trioxide by spray doping, then heated and dried to make tungsten-yttrium coated powder, and then tungsten-yttrium coated powder is prepared. The powder is reduced twice to obtain tungsten-yttrium powder, and then the tungsten yttrium powder is pressed and sintered at high temperature to form a tungsten-yttrium billet, and finally the billet is forged to produce the desired product.
In terms of use, yttrium tungsten electrodes are mainly used for welding military and aerospace parts, etc., and the common welding objects are carbon steel, stainless steel, copper and aluminum, etc.
